When Xibo might fit

Xibo still fits one kind of team. Here is how CloudyFy TV answers it.

  • Free, self-hosted control

Xibo's AGPLv3 core lets you run the CMS on your own server, under your own control, for nothing.

With CloudyFy TV: We run the infrastructure so you don't have to: no server, database, backups or upgrades on your side, and every player licence inside one subscription.

Pick Xibo if owning the stack matters more than avoiding it. Pick CloudyFy TV if you'd rather a subscription just work.

Why do people look for a Xibo alternative?

The most common reason isn't a missing feature, it's what "free" turns out to mean

Xibo's CMS is genuinely free under an AGPLv3 licence, but that's the software only: you still provide, patch, and back up the server it runs on, and buy a perpetual licence for each Android, Tizen, webOS or ChromeOS player. Xibo's three paid cloud tiers remove the server and include the players, from $4.90 per display a month, with 1 GB of storage per display and best-effort support on the entry tier (xibosignage.com/pricing, checked 2026-10-29).

How CloudyFy TV differs, honestly

CloudyFy TV is one hosted account with its price on its pricing page: ₹550 or $7$7 or ₹550 per device a month on Starter, which pairs up to 25 devices, ₹1,000 or $12$12 or ₹1,000 on Standard for up to 50, and ₹1,500 or $20$20 or ₹1,500 on Pro for up to 100. There's no separate licence to buy per platform, since the subscription covers the CMS and every player it supports. Indian prices are shown before GST, which is added at checkout.

Xibo vs CloudyFy TV, at a glance

CloudyFy TV Starter is ₹550 or $7$7 or ₹550 per device a month and pairs up to 25 devices, so 25 displays are ₹13,750 or $175$175 or ₹13,750 a month, with 5 GB per device. Xibo Cloud Professional is listed at $4.90 per display, $122.50 for 25, with 1 GB per display and best-effort support; Business, at $7.70, adds SAML and a 5-working-day SLA. These are the rows a Xibo user actually has to weigh: who runs the server, what the licence covers, and what arrives inside the subscription rather than as a second invoice.

How do I migrate from Xibo to CloudyFy TV?

There's no importer between the two, so treat it as a fresh setup rather than a transfer.

  1. Download your media from Xibo

Images, videos, PDFs, then upload it into CloudyFy TV's Media Library, which deduplicates by checksum so a file you upload twice only costs storage once.
  2. Recreate each layout

In CloudyFy TV's builder, using one of the 93 catalogue templates as a starting point rather than a blank canvas.
  3. Pair each physical screen

With a fresh code from the Devices screen, install the CloudyFy TV player for that device's platform, an APK sideload for Android and Fire TV, the Tizen .wgt, or the LG webOS .ipk, and confirm it comes online before you decommission the Xibo player.
  4. Keep the old server read-only, if self-hosted

If you were self-hosting, keep the old server running read-only until the last screen has switched over.

Switching from Xibo in a week

A 25-screen estate is about a week of work if you sequence it. Here is what each day looks like, and what the Xibo side of it involves.

  1. Day 1: get the media out of Xibo

Self-hosted, the library is a folder on your own disk, so copy it straight off the server rather than clicking through the CMS. On a cloud tier you download it from the library instead. Upload the result to CloudyFy TV, then check your heaviest screen against the plan cap: 250 MB of total media per layout on Starter, 500 MB on Standard, 1,000 MB on Pro.
  2. Days 2 and 3: recreate layouts from the 93 templates

A Xibo layout is a set of regions, each running its own playlist. CloudyFy TV builds the same shape from blocks, splitting the canvas into panes with split_x and split_y. Start from the closest of the 93 catalogue templates and drop your uploaded media into the blocks instead of redrawing the geometry from nothing.
  3. Day 4: pair devices by code

Xibo players are pointed at a CMS address and authorised from the display list. CloudyFy TV works the other way round: the Devices screen issues a pairing code, you type it into the player once, and the screen appears online. Install the APK on Android TV and Fire TV, the .wgt on Tizen, the .ipk on webOS.
  4. Day 5: recreate the schedule

Move one display group at a time. Recreate each recurring window on the matching CloudyFy TV device group, set the default content that plays when no rule matches, then publish and read the readiness matrix before you walk away from it.
  5. Days 6 and 7: verify with proof of play

Run both systems in parallel for a day, then open CloudyFy TV's proof-of-play report and confirm every screen logged what you expected, at the times you expected. Export that CSV, keep one final Xibo database dump, and only then stop the service and leave the perpetual player licences unused.
