What is dwell time in digital signage?
"Dwell time" means two different things depending on who’s using it: a playlist setting you configure, or an audience-measurement metric someone measures with a camera. Here’s the CloudyFy TV meaning, and why it isn’t the other one.
- Dwell time
- Dwell time is how long a single piece of content stays on screen before the next one plays. In a playlist, it’s set per item, so a 15-second promo and a 45-second video can sit in the same rotation without either one cutting the other off early or overstaying its turn.
Dwell time (playlist) vs dwell time (audience measurement)
Dwell time (playlist)vsDwell time (audience measurement)
The phrase "dwell time" has a second meaning in retail and out-of-home marketing: how long a passerby actually looks at or lingers near a screen, usually measured with cameras or sensors as an audience-engagement metric. That is not what CloudyFy TV’s dwell time setting means. CloudyFy TV’s dwell time is a playlist configuration value, the duration you tell an item to display, not a measurement of how long anyone actually watched it. CloudyFy TV does not do camera-based audience analytics or measure attention in any form.
How does dwell time work in CloudyFy TV?
Every playlist item in CloudyFy TV carries its own dwell time and transition, independent of the items around it, so a 60-item rotation can mix short and long content freely without one item’s timing affecting another’s. Changing an item’s dwell time on a live playlist re-stages every screen currently playing it automatically, so there’s no manual republish step to remember after a timing tweak, and the change takes effect the next time each screen cycles through.
