What is proof of play in digital signage?
If you’re buying screen time from someone else, or reporting up to a head office that isn’t on site, a schedule isn’t enough; you need proof the content actually ran. Here’s what proof of play means and how CloudyFy TV records it.
- Proof of play
- Proof of play is a verifiable record that a specific piece of content actually played, on a specific screen, at a specific time. It matters most for advertising and franchise compliance, where someone other than the screen owner needs evidence, not just a schedule, that the content ran as planned.
Proof of play vs analytics and reports
Proof of playvsAnalytics and reports
Proof of play is easy to conflate with general analytics, but the two answer different questions. Uptime and device-health reports tell you whether a screen is online and behaving normally. Proof of play tells you specifically what content played, where, and for how long, which is the record an advertiser or a franchise head office actually needs, not a health check on the hardware. A vendor that only offers uptime reporting hasn’t answered the proof-of-play question at all, even if their dashboard looks similar.
How does proof of play work in CloudyFy TV?
CloudyFy TV logs every play event per layout and per device, including duration and bandwidth, and exposes it through dedicated proof-of-play and ranking reports, separate from the uptime and storage reports that cover device health. Both are exportable as CSV. A franchise head office or an ad buyer can pull the exact play log for one location and one date range without touching the device-status screens at all, and without needing anyone on site to confirm it manually.
