What is kiosk mode in digital signage?
A screen in a lobby or storefront needs to survive being poked, swiped and closed by whoever walks past it. That’s kiosk mode, and it’s a narrower thing than the MDM software it often gets grouped with in search results.
- Kiosk mode
- Kiosk mode locks a device to a single signage app, hiding the operating system, home screen, notifications and other apps so a screen in a public place cannot be tampered with or navigated away from. It turns a general-purpose TV, tablet or stick into a dedicated, single-purpose display.
Kiosk mode vs MDM
Kiosk modevsMDM
Kiosk mode and MDM (mobile device management) overlap but aren’t the same product category. Full MDM software manages an entire device fleet’s operating system, app installs, security policies and compliance, usually for employee phones and laptops. Kiosk mode is narrower: it locks one app to the foreground and disables the way out. CloudyFy TV ships kiosk lock, not a general MDM. If your screens need broader OS-level device management beyond what plays on them, that’s a separate tool running alongside CloudyFy TV, not a replacement for it.
How does kiosk mode work in CloudyFy TV?
CloudyFy TV’s kiosk lock pins the player app to the foreground and disables the home button, recent-apps switcher and settings shortcuts on supported devices. It can only be released with a server-issued exit PIN generated from the CMS for that specific device, not a code stored on the device itself. That keeps a screen in a lobby, waiting room or storefront from being swiped away, closed, or reconfigured by anyone without CMS access, even if they have physical access to the screen.
